Laura Linn
Veterinary Assistant & Dog Trainer

I was born in Florida but have lived in Virginia the vast majority of my life.  Even as a child I was a dog trainer at heart, teaching my mixed breed dogs agility and tricks to show off to the other neighborhood kids.  Of course they were wholly unimpressed with my canine antics, but it honestly didn’t bother me much as I generally preferred my dogs company to that of other 7 year olds anyhow.

Laura, Dog Trainer
I graduated in 2000 from Heritage High school, spending my four years there deeply involved in sports and the arts.  Other than that, I did what all 16 year olds do.  That’s right; study hard, listen to my parents, and always behaved as a well raised young lady should.  Or at least that’s my story for today’s page.

Over the last ten years I’ve worked as a Veterinary Technician in different local clinics, the last 5 years as part of the Seven Hills Animal Hospital family, to which I love dearly.  In 2006 I was invited to begin work as the resident trainer and behavior consultant, and took on the task as I do all things, with the kind of gusto that only comes from hyper-intense Italian redheads that drink a six pack of coke on any given day.

I love my job as a tech, don’t get me wrong, but there is something about taking a frustrated owner and frenzied dog, and helping them to become a true team. I have seen the frustration in the eyes in both man and beast, when they both want to same thing but speak two completely different languages…and I have seen the look of relief that comes from FINALLY understanding what the other one wants and needs.   There are no words to describe the kind of satisfaction I feel when I am blessed to experience this over and over again.  But I digress.  I’m supposed to be talking about who I am.

Also in 2006 (it was a busy year for me) I went back to school and became a state board certified EMT.  When I’m not working, sleeping or playing with my OWN dogs, I can usually be found outside.  I like fishing, hiking, playing in the mud with my wrangler, photographing old architecture, and collecting rocks.  When it gets too cold or too hot for my outdoor hobbies, I write children’s books so I can procrastinate and shove them into my desk drawer to “one day” be published.  (And if my Nana is reading this, I swear, I’m going to send them in soon).  I also play video games and make little model air planes with my husband Seth.

My pets are of course a huge part of my life.  I currently have 5 dogs (Miles, Harley, Figaro, Portabella, and Roscoe) as well as a foster dog (Kibs).  5 cats that shed everywhere and vomit hairballs in the most inconvenient places (Hobbs, Azriel, Phantom, Spot and Nomad), and two birds – a Quaker parrot (Alex) and a Sun Conure (Rubix)

Well, I’m sure I told you way more then you ever wanted to know about me, but it seems I’m simply incapable of writing just one paragraph.  Hope to meet you and your furry friend soon.
